On May 26th, Style Sessions begins a nine-day art
exhibit (May 26 - June 3) at Milk Gallery in New York City with
an opening reception and silent auction to benefit breast cancer
awareness. A portion of proceeds from art sales go to Boarding
for Breast Cancer (B4BC), a youth-focused educational outreach
foundation with a mission to increase awareness about breast cancer,
the importance of early detection, and the value of a healthy lifestyle.
Style Sessions partnered with renowned artist, William Quigley,
to organize and produce a series of 75 original art works on
skateboard decks. The exhibit includes contributions from 50
Cent, Tony Alva, Hope Atherton, Peter Beard, Art Brewer, Marc
Chiat, Andy Dick, Hazel Dooney, Pete Francis, Carla Gannis, Michael
Halsband, Attila Richard Lukacs, Barry McGee, Anthony Migliaccio,
Lance Mountain, Steve Olson, Shaquille O'Neal, Stacy Peralta,
Shelter Serra, Peter Tunney, and Robin Williams. Skull Skates
donated
a majority
of the skateboards.
On May 28th, Style Sessions hosts a free-ride skateboard and
photo competition where riders are judged in a surf style format.
Best Rider receives a free trip to the Tokyo Style Sessions in
the fall of 2005. Best Photographer receives $1,000 in printing
and digital imaging services courtesy of Sumo Graphics along
with publication in several magazines including Concrete Wave.
Style Sessions proudly supports Stoked and their Skate Mentor
program, which launches June 4th. Stoked is an action sports
mentoring program whose mission is to develop successful teens
with opportunity, knowledge, experience, and determination. Stoked
exposes at-risk youth to new environments and experiences through
skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding, while engaging in a
positive mentoring relationship.
On June 3rd, TriStar Pictures presents the major motion picture
Lords of Dogtown in theaters across North America. In honor of
the original Z Boys surf-skate team, The Lords of Dogtown Art
Tour, consisting of more than 60 pieces of artwork, joins the
Style Sessions Exhibit from May 31 - June 3 at Milk Gallery.
Select pieces from the tour are being auctioned to raise additional
money for Boarding for Breast Cancer. On June 1st, Style Sessions
hosts the Lords of Dogtown VIP reception including cast and celebrities
from the motion picture, and some of the legendary Z boys.
